Rally in Seattle on Sunday Jul 18, 2021
Henry M. Jackson Federal Building, 915 2nd Ave
11am - 12:30pm PDT
Contact(s): Sunrise Movement (team (at) sunrisemovement (point) org)
Our future is not negotiable. In 2020, young people organized in historic numbers to take back Congress and elect Joe Biden on a bold climate mandate. Our priorities then were clear as they are now: confront the twin crises of climate change and economic insecurity, root the solutions in racial justice, and put our politics on a path that makes our future possible.
We did our jobs. In 2021, it’s time for Joe Biden and Congress to do theirs. This summer, we have the opportunity to demonstrate the power the government has to improve people's lives by passing a Civilian Climate Corps: a robust jobs program that would put over 1.5 million Americans to work in good paying union jobs that will save our planet through building up our sustainable infrastructure.
All across our movement, Sunrisers have been rising up to demand a CCC and make Good Jobs for All common sense. In the Gulf South, dozens of hub leaders are marching 400 miles from New Orleans to Houston, and are ready to deliver our generation's mandate to Ted Cruz’s doorstep. Young people in California have echoed the call and are marching from Paradise to San Francisco, joining communities hurt most by the climate crisis, and asking democratic leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Diane Feinstein to step up.
On July 18th, we will make it clear to Democrats everywhere: you need to deliver on the promises we elected you on. We will make sure everyone else tasked with addressing the climate, economic and racial justice crises does their jobs.
Join us as we gather outside Senators Cantwell and Murray's office, the Jackson Federal Building on 2nd avenue in downtown Seattle, and demand that [target] push a progressive Civilian Climate Corps through Congress. We will be drawing action art on the sidewalk around the building with chalk. We'll see you in the streets!
