Bozeman High School students and Gallatin Valley Sunrise are joining the Global Climate Strike declared by Fridays For Future, Greta Thunberg’s movement, on September 24th to protest the failure of the government to safeguard our livable future. Students will walk out of their classes and be met by community activists for a rally at the courthouse.

As young people, the youth of Bozeman High School and Gallatin Valley Sunrise feel the devastation in the air with every new dawn dulled by toxic smoke. We have grown up watching the future we were promised, one with jobs and a livable climate, slipping further and further away. As institutional paths for change have failed us, we join youth around the world in the streets to continue in a long tradition of progress won through nonviolence.

Our governments have the responsibility to care for their people. We know that our movement will be impossible to ignore as the United Nations has their General Assembly meeting, our very own Senators deliberate over the fate of climate measures in the budget reconciliation bill, and as our local commissioners run for reelection. Climate action must happen at every level, and by standing together here in Bozeman, we can make change near and far.
