Rally in Charlotte on Sunday Sep 19, 2021

First Ward Park, 301 E 7th St
4pm - 6pm EDT
Contact(s): Sunrise Movement (team (at) sunrisemovement (point) org)

Environmental justice means social justice! It is time to make our government finally work for the people and implement high-paying, union jobs that help solve the climate crisis not add to it! It is time for our city to see a greater expansion in public transit that is run on renewable energy sources. It is time for us to invest in dignified and updated affordable housing to fight the cycle of poverty in Charlotte.

That is why Charlotte must stand with the rest of the nation and demand bold and immediate action. We know that our futures are at stake if we continue to let these companies dictate our livelihoods which is why on Sunday, September 19th, we are calling on our elected officials to pass a bold climate agenda while they vote for the reconciliation package: a fully funded Civilian Climate Corps and bold investment in renewable energy, public housing, transit, and schools.

It’s time for Charlotte to demand action on climate! On September 20th Congress returns to D.C. so we are mobilizing to make sure our elected officials know that it is time to pick a side, either they are for Charlotte’s future or they are against it.

According to the latest apocalyptic IPCC report, we’re facing severe, nearly irreplaceable climate impacts. In Charlotte and the surrounding areas, we have seen the climate crisis manifest in haze-filled skies and recording-breaking hot summer days. We have seen the fossil fuel companies we rely on hike up energy prices, pollute our nature preserves, and manipulate our legislation in order to benefit themselves, not our communities.

Join us for a March for Charlotte’s Future Sunday, September 19th at First Ward Park at 4pm. Hear from local activists about how these policies will impact your life here in the Queen City. Stand with us as we form a better future for Charlotte and beyond.

Rally in Waynesville on Sunday Sep 19, 2021

4pm - 5:30pm EDT
Contact(s): Sunrise Movement (team (at) sunrisemovement (point) org)

On September 20th, Congress gets back to DC to vote on bills that could be the largest climate and jobs investment this country has ever seen. Appalachia desperately needs a fully funded Civilian Climate Corps and bold investment in renewable energy, public housing, transit, and schools, especially in the wake of climate disaster.

In August Western North Carolina was devastated by catastrophic flooding from Tropical Storm Fred. The only homes folks have ever known washed away, and the damage is still very severe. Rural communities in Cruso and Canton were hit the hardest. Rep. Cawthorn has done nothing but grandstand about "rigged elections" and ignore the deep needs of his district in this critical moment.

Most importantly, Cawthorn is also on the House Education and Labor Committee which will determine the scope of legislation like the CCC to bring good paying jobs and start the path to sustainable, community-centered recovery in Appalachia.

Join us in Waynesville on Sunday, September 19th at 4:00PM for a march and rally targeting Rep. Madison Cawthorn to hold him accountable and demand that he use HIS power to lift up our voice, or we will use OUR power to vote him out of office.

If you would like to attend for the full day, we will be coordinating a canvass and supply drop in impacted communities in Cruso earlier in the day from 12-3PM on 9/19. Please reach out to wearewnc (at) gmail (point) com if you're interested in participating, or contact the host of this event.
